What Does Powertrain Mean and What is Powertrain Warranty?

When you’re shopping for a new Acura, a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle, or a used car of any kind, one term comes up again and again: powertrain. You probably have a vague idea what it’s about, but it’s more important than you might think.

What Is the Powertrain All About?

Every vehicle has one. A powertrain includes the engine, transmission, drive shaft, front-wheel drive axle, all-wheel drive transfer case, and the rear-wheel drive system on AWD models. When you look at all of these parts of the powertrain, it’s easy to see how they’re related. Each component is critical to delivering power to the wheels, making your vehicle drive.  There’s a reason that this group of parts is distinguished from the rest of your Acura. Because they’re so integral to your vehicle, they’re covered under a warranty that’s longer than your bumper-to-bumper warranty. Acura has such faith in their powertrain components that they give you more time and mileage than your comprehensive warranty to ensure you’re covered for any problems.  It’s important to note that manufacturers can have differences in what’s covered by the powertrain warranty on a vehicle. Some may not include axle shafts or wheel hubs. Others might charge a deductible for powertrain parts that are repaired or replaced. And for all, wear items are not included in powertrain coverage.

How Long is Acura’s Powertrain Warranty?

The bumper-to-bumper warranty on a new Acura model is 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. But its powertrain has coverage for longer. On all new Acura models, powertrain warranty is in effect for 6 years or 70,000 miles from your inservice date, whichever comes first.  Compare that to many other German luxury carmakers where the powertrain warranty expires when your basic warranty does.  Why would you take a chance on expensive powertrain repairs with any other luxury brand? Acura’s 6 year, 70,000-mile warranty on its powertrain gives you peace of mind while owning a car you love to drive.    For more information on Acura’s warranties or to find your new Acura model in the Overland Park, KS area, visit Jay Wolfe Aciura of Overland Park.
