Acura Integra: Why a Sporty Car Still Makes Sense in an SUV World

Look around a parking lot today and it sometimes feels like everyone bought an SUV at the same time. SUVs are useful. No argument there. But not everyone needs three rows, extra ride height, or a giant cargo area. For drivers who would rather have something lower, lighter on its feet, and a little more fun, the Acura Integra still makes a strong case.

Acura has confirmed meaningful enhancements for the 2027 Integra, although full details haven’t been released yet. The current Integra remains in production and gives us plenty to like while we wait.

It’s More Practical Than It Looks

The Integra has sporty proportions, but the liftback design is one of its best tricks. Instead of the small trunk opening you might expect from a traditional sedan, the rear hatch gives you much better access to the cargo area. That makes groceries, luggage, sports equipment, and bulkier items easier to load. It’s one reason the Integra works surprisingly well as an everyday car rather than something you only want to drive on weekends.

You Can Choose How Sporty You Want It

Not every Integra needs to be the full Type S experience. The regular Integra offers a comfortable, premium daily-driver setup, while A-Spec models add a sportier look. Then there’s the Type S.

The current Integra Type S uses a turbocharged engine producing 320 horsepower, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. It also adds Brembo front brakes, adaptive dampers, a limited-slip differential, and other performance upgrades. That’s a very different experience from driving another compact crossover.

There’s Something Nice About a Lower Car

SUVs give you a taller seating position, which plenty of people prefer. A car like the Integra gives you something else. You sit closer to the road, the vehicle feels more eager to change direction, and there’s less of that tall-body movement you get from many crossovers. For someone who genuinely enjoys driving, those differences matter.

It Doesn’t Ask You to Give Up Everyday Comfort

The Integra isn’t a stripped-out sports car. Depending on the version, you can still get premium audio, driver-assistance technology, modern connectivity, heated seating, and plenty of the features people expect from a premium vehicle. That combination is really the appeal. It’s sporty without becoming impractical.

If you’re not convinced your next vehicle needs to be an SUV, visit Acura of Overland Park and spend some time with the Integra. Sometimes taking the lower seat is a lot more fun.
